A study in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology found that coating stents with CTP synthase 1 inhibitors such as cyclopentenyl cytosine may help inhibit smooth muscle cell proliferation, potentially cutting the risk of blood clots. "Our study identified CTPS1 as a novel target for developing anti-neointima drugs that are SMC-sensitive but have little side-effect on re-endothelialization during vascular repair," researchers said.
