Children who watched task demonstration videos that were preceded with a verbal explanation were more likely to perform the featured task as it was shown than those who were given an explanation afterward, according to a study in the journal Cognition. In addition, when seeing two people doing the same thing, "children are disposed to ascribe it to social factors -- more specifically, to norms regulating how each person should act," study author Cristine Legare said.
