Researchers at King's College London discovered a gene called MX2 that can prevent HIV from spreading within the body. The virus that causes AIDS replicated and spread in the cells where the MX2 was silenced but failed to spread in cells where the MX2 gene was switched on, researchers said. The findings, published in the journal Nature, could lead to less harmful treatments that use the body's natural defenses.
