California's state Senate has passed a resolution encouraging companies to include more women on their corporate boards. State Sen. Hanna-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, who authored the resolution, described it as a "symbolic show of support" for equality. After little improvement in women's representation on corporate boards at the largest public companies, "at this rate, it would take more than 100 years to reach gender balance," said Amanda Kimball, a researcher at the University of California at Davis.
