Treatment with autologous cardiac progenitor cells was linked with reductions in scar tissue and improvements in viable myocardium after a heart attack, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Improved systolic function and greater scar tissue improvements were seen in the treatment group compared with controls, according to the 25-patient study, which was conducted at two centers.
