The use of screw caps is on the rise in the North American wine industry, up from 5% of wineries in 2004 to 38% now using them on at least some bottles, says Jacques Brix, French Association of Wine Executives president and vice president/director of sales for Wines & Vines during a keynote address at a recent conference. Screw caps are dominating the single-serve market and have led to the development of alternative closures, this article says. However, 84% of wineries continue to use a natural cork in some or all wine bottles.
