An analysis of data from 14 studies involving almost 55,000 people found that taking vitamin B supplements was associated with a 7% lower risk of stroke. Vitamin B supplements, however, had no beneficial effect on stroke severity or risk of death from stroke, according to the study in the journal Neurology. The stroke-reduction ability of vitamin B may be influenced by several other factors "such as the body's absorption rate, the amount of folic acid or vitamin B12 concentration in the blood, and whether a person has kidney disease or high blood pressure," study author Xu Yuming said.
