Restricting daily morphine dosages to 100 mg may not be an effective strategy to reduce overdoses, according to Purdue Pharma research released at PAINWeek 2013. The study, which cited age, sedative use and lack of a recent opioid prescription as factors in overdose risk, followed recommendations from Physicians for Rational Opioid Prescribing that included limiting doses for noncancer pain.
