A surety company is expected to name a new contractor for a portion of a levee to protect the National Mall after the original firm was removed from the project for failing to make sufficient progress, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A $4.6 million contract for the work was awarded in September 2010 and had been scheduled for completion earlier this year. A new completion date will be set once the new contractor is named.
