A study in the Journal of Perinatology found that telemedicine helped lower both infant mortality and the number of babies born with very low birth weights at nine rural hospitals in Arkansas. Researchers revealed that deliveries of low-weight babies declined from 13.1% to 7%, while infant mortality dropped from 13% to 6.7% at the participating facilities during the study period of July 2009 through March 2010.
