Twitter announced Thursday that it had filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to launch an initial public offering. The company, which has more than 200 million active users, broke the news through its microblogging service. "It's maybe a little earlier than some people suspected," said JMP Group President Carter Mack. "A lot of people suspected first quarter of next year. It's been a terrific IPO market for technology-related companies this year."
