As of July, four out of every 10 U.S. households had been upgraded from a legacy analog electrical meter to a smart device that supports two-way communications, according to a tally by IEE, formerly Institute for Electric Efficiency. The report found over the previous year, utilities had deployed approximately 10 million smart meters, bringing the number of devices in U.S. homes to 46 million.
