As personalized medical care gains traction, radiology must reinvent itself to remain relevant, according to information presented by health IT expert Dr. Eliot Siegel at the New York Imaging and Informatics Symposium. Siegel says the answer could be found in the exploration of imaging studies for collecting a set of routine data, in addition to the indicated use, that could be used to monitor risk of certain health problems. Imaging data must also be paired with genomic data, something Siegel is working on, but he notes there are numerous hurdles including data-sharing roadblocks.
