A new Interalia technology to filter out 9-1-1 pocket-dial calls has prompted a debate on whether it is acceptable to hang up on a 9-1-1 call, Glenn Bischoff writes. There are concerns about what could happen if a caller is actually in trouble but cannot speak because of nearby danger. Interalia product manager Ken Myroon noted the XMU+ technology can pick up even the slightest noise on the line, and before disconnecting it sends callers a message to press any key to continue the call.
