Apache will face a $2.7 million penalty for the alleged "knowing or willful" filing of false Gulf of Mexico data on royalties, according to the Department of the Interior's Office of Natural Resources Revenue. The company improperly subtracted transportation expenses from Gulf royalty payments, an audit found. "This civil penalty supports ONRR's continuing efforts to enforce correct reporting and accurate royalty payments," said Paul Mussenden, the Interior Department's deputy assistant secretary for natural resources revenue management.
