Lawmakers in the Australian Capital Territory passed legislation Tuesday that may bring marriage equality to the territory. The Australian government plans to challenge the bill's constitutionality. Andrew Barr, the openly gay deputy chief minister of the territory who pushed for the bill's passage, called it "an important step in [Canberra's] journey to become the most LGBTI city in Australia." LGBT organizations are planning a November march in defense of the new law.
