Universal Electronics, during a demonstration at the SCTE Show in Atlanta, gave a preview of how near-field communication will soon transform the remote control. For example, a TV ad for Pizza Hut will allow a viewer to tap a remote to a smartphone and receive a coupon, while a "touch to share" application lets TV viewers transfer a show to a smartphone. Starting in January, people who purchase an Xperia smartphone and a connected TV from Sony will be the first to access such features from Universal, which also provides remotes to Comcast, Charter and Cox.
