Top-performing minority students are pursuing careers other than teaching, and researchers at the Illinois Education Research Council at Southeastern Illinois University have released a study on the issue. Brad White, lead researcher on the study, suggests that Illinois could recruit more minority teachers by starting as early as high school in identifying students who are potential teachers and working to improve educational opportunities for minorities.
