Cass County commissioners in Iowa were assured if the county outsources its 9-1-1 dispatch operations to a New Jersey company, its dispatchers would retain their positions and salary. The private contract arrangement is unusual and county commissioners are not sold on paying for a $12,500 feasibility study required by the private company. As for the dispatchers, "I have a number who said they would probably be interested in locating elsewhere and wouldn't be interested in working for a private company," said Rob Koppert, director of the 9-1-1 center.
