The nonprofit Green Place Detroit is giving students hands-on opportunities to learn science, technology, engineering and math skills through an after-school program in which students work with local architects, builders and engineers to construct a house from recycled shipping containers and an urban garden. "We wanted to show students you could do a lot with an engineering degree," said Tony Argote, a Green Place founder and GM automotive engineer.
