A brain-eating amoeba detected in water systems in two Louisiana parishes could present a liability risk for the local water systems, lawyers said. "It's up to the district's risk manager to work with a broker to tailor the coverage language so it doesn't preclude injury to customers caused by microbial or other infections," said lawyer John Nevius. On the advice of health officials, the DeSoto Parish water district has begun a chlorine burn in an attempt to eradicate the amoeba, but the chlorine may also become a liability, Nevius said.
