Skin infections that occur when contaminated aquarium water contacts an open wound are common, but they can be difficult to diagnose because of a delayed reaction, doctors at Henry Ford Health System say. Skin lesions appear 11 to 56 days after contact with water contaminated with Mycobacterium marinum, and many patients forget about the contact by the time they develop a reaction and see a doctor. The infection can be treated with antibiotics.
