US crude inventories climbed by 3.1 million barrels last week, according to the American Petroleum Institute, whereas analysts had expected a decline of 400,000 barrels. Gasoline supplies plunged by 1.6 million barrels, while distillates unexpectedly rose by 2 million barrels, API said.
