The Permian Basin's petroleum industry continued to expand in August, with the Texas Permian Basin Petroleum Index rising 23.6% year-on-year, according to economist Karr Ingham. The rig count was up 98.8% from August 2016 to 318 units, the number of drilling permits issued rose 74.2% to 690, employment increased by 7.8% to 2,100 jobs, while oil well completions were up 3.2% to 321.
