SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: Do you think tax policy should favor employers who don’t outsource jobs to other countries?

  • Yes 81%
  • No 19%

While the results aren’t surprising, I find it interesting how the “Buy American” motto has now shifted to jobs. It used to be a marketing campaign aimed at consumers who had strayed from the American brands (particularly automotive), yet now the focus has shifted to businesses that choose to outsource. People may not want to buy American anymore but they still want their jobs here. Hopefully this campaign is more successful than the original.
