SmartPulse — our weekly nonscientific reader poll in SmartBrief on Leadership — tracks feedback from more than 210,000 business leaders. We run the poll question each week in our e-newsletter.

How much will the results of this year’s elections affect your business?

  • Tremendously — We have a lot riding on the outcome: 40%
  • Moderately — There will be some minor effects from the result: 29% Not much — Any effects will be small and of short duration: 15%
  • Not at all — Enough with the election. Let me get back to work: 17%

Get out and vote. Obviously there’s a lot riding on this election in many ways. It’s been anything but predictable so far. As a leader, you should at least be contingency planning. There are two likely outcomes in November (but hundreds of outcomes accounting for state and local races). Spend some time assessing the impacts of each election outcome. Determine the most likely impacts and lay out a contingency so you’re not caught by surprise by the election results. And regardless of how fed up you are with the election, get out and vote!
