The long-awaited opening of Amazon’s unstaffed Seattle store topped the list of most-read food and beverage stories this week. Shoppers at the Amazon Go store download an app and shop for prepared and fresh foods. Purchases are tracked by in-store technology and customers are automatically charged for what they take.

Other food retail stories that resonated with readers this week include Lidl’s evolving plans for the US and Kroger’s reported interest in acquiring e-commerce player Overstock.com.

Several CPG stories also proved popular, starting with the tale of Mondelez‘ innovation in the breakfast market with belVita biscuits. Also in the top 10: General Mills is selling cereal boxes that double as Rube Goldberg-esque cereal delivery machines and Hershey and Nestle have rolled out new sweet treats.
