From the UK’s Detox Barn, which offers guests a plant-based diet, to the Chateau de Mouillac in France, which offers guests a raw vegan food cleanse, spas continue to cater to those who want to eat healthy and use natural remedies, and these days, that translates to the use of CBD oil as well.

CBD oil is growing in popularity as an ingredient in spa treatments around the world. The Spa Ottawa in Ontario offers massage therapy using CBD oil, tapping into what many believe are pain relieving qualities of the oil.

“It’s a natural and organic painkiller,” Spa Manager Claudia Rivas tells the Huffington Post.

The Spa at Emerson Resort in the Catskills region of New York has multiple CBD-based treatments on offer. In addition, the spa lets guests add CBD oil to treatment, according to Forbes.

Spas are using the all-natural properties of some beauty brands as a selling point when selecting product lines. Beauty products are subscribing to the all-natural trend and many brands are shying away from chemicals in response. Go-To Lips lip balm uses cruelty-free development processes and natural ingredients such as shea butter, avocado and almond oil, while the Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Plant Me A Kiss lipstick and mascara package is vegan friendly.

Laurel Whole Plant Organics has become the go-to brand for Spa Anjali at The Westin Riverfront Resort in Vail, Colo.

“Sometimes when you use plant materials, they aren’t organic …  and (they have) pesticides, with this company, that’s just kicked to the curb. Everything the skin is getting is genuinely pure,” said Lauren Yuhasz, an esthetician, massage therapist and certified herbalist with Spa Anjali in this article.

While all-natural ingredients are prized, some spas want natural ingredients that are also locally sourced. The eforea spa on New Zealand’s South Island uses local ingredients in treatments, including the area’s rose quartz. Rose quartz is used in skin treatments and is praised by the likes of Jessica Alba and Alicia Keys, according to this Forbes article.

“We always consider the impact we have on our clientele’s body, mind and soul,” says Erin MacDermott, eforea spa manager and registered massage, in Forbes. “Energetic work is a large part of this philosophy. And our healing stones, such as quartz, is sourced ethically and locally from our historic gold mines.”
