The travel industry in 2025 is poised for a transformative year, fueled by emerging trends that reflect changing priorities among travelers. With 80% of US adults planning vacations, the year will be marked by a quest for unique, meaningful, and sustainable experiences. The following is a snapshot of some of the key travel trends shaping 2025:

The rise of meaningful travel

Experts predict that 2025 will emphasize intentional and enriching experiences. Solo female travel, particularly among older women, is leading the charge, while younger travelers are gravitating toward group adventures. Slow travel, which prioritizes deeper connections with destinations, is gaining popularity as people seek to savor the journey instead of rushing through it.

“Travelers are increasingly shifting away from rushed itineraries and fast-paced tourism, opting for deeper, more intentional experiences prioritizing personal restoration and environmental care,” explains Jessica Blotter, CEO & Co-Founder, Kind Traveler. “This approach encourages extended stays, mindful engagement with local cultures, and lower-impact travel methods, such as train journeys and eco-friendly accommodations.”

Luxury travel: From trains to privacy

The Kinglike survey, which polled 158,000 high-net-worth individuals worldwide, revealed key insights into luxury travel preferences. Notably, luxury train tours are favored by 24% of respondents, while sustainability influences 36.2% of booking decisions. Unique experiences and luxury accommodations are also significant motivators.

“When it comes to booking decisions, sustainability plays a key role, influencing 36.2% of participants, a clear sign that eco-friendly options are becoming increasingly important,” according to the study.

Emerging niches: Noctourism and cowboy core

Two of the most distinctive trends shaping 2025 are “noctourism” and “cowboy core.” Noctourism, which focuses on nighttime experiences such as stargazing and cosmic event viewing, is being embraced by nearly two-thirds of surveyed travelers, according to Bookings.com. This trend caters to those looking to avoid daytime crowds and enjoy serene, celestial moments.

Meanwhile, “Cowboy core” tourism is set to become a major trend in 2025, with 44% of US travelers expressing interest, according to Skyscanner. Popular activities include ranch visits, line dancing and rodeos, with destinations such as Cody, Wyo. seeing increased visitors. Frontier Airlines and Delta Air Lines are adding routes to support this trend.

Wellness and connection: A new paradigm

Wellness travel in 2025 is moving away from isolation toward community-driven experiences. Resorts are offering group activities such as hiking, mindset coaching, and wellness retreats that emphasize social connections. Research has shown that fostering relationships during travel can significantly enhance mental health and well-being.

“Clients are searching for a sense of calm through shared experiences. It’s a personal call of the wild as a collective journey,”  says Black Tomato founder Tom Marchant.

Trends shaped by technology

Technology remains a powerful force in reshaping travel. AI-driven itineraries, biometric check-ins, and advanced forecasting are streamlining the planning process. However, some experts caution that current AI systems often fall short in crafting personalized, meaningful experiences.

“Travel planning isn’t just about logistics,” says Katie Robertson, director of digital product and technology at 360 Private Travel. “It’s about solving unique challenges and anticipating needs—a skill no algorithm can fully replicate.”

Celebratory travel: Megamoons and retirementmoons

Celebration continues to be a significant motivator for travel. “Megamoons,” or extravagant, extended honeymoons, are becoming a favorite among newlyweds seeking customized itineraries to bucket-list destinations. Similarly, “retirementmoons” are emerging as a trend among retirees embracing their newfound freedom with grand adventures.

“Retirementmoons symbolize a fresh chapter of discovery and self-investment,” says Jessica Trammell, vice president of marketing for EF Go Ahead Tours.

Practical challenges and tips

Not all trends are without challenges. “Mattress runs,” where travelers book hotel rooms without staying to earn loyalty points, are facing backlash as chains like Hyatt and Hilton require physical check-ins to award points. Additionally, rising travel costs mean that travelers must strategize to save, with points programs and hub cities offering potential savings.

Brian Kelly, founder of The Points Guy, advises, “Consider using airline credit cards and traveling through major hubs to reduce costs, especially as demand for cultural experiences surges.”
